LEAVING HONG KONG

Papers, payment, crossing. Then match a roadbook.

These three steps link only to official pages that were opened and checked. This site does not apply for documents, exchange money, or list coupons. A border grade is not a promise inside every roadbook.

  1. Two permits, not one

What a Hong Kong resident uses for the mainland depends on nationality. Do not treat the two permits as the same card.

    Chinese citizens

The usual document is the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, often called the Home Return Permit. Channels and fees follow China Travel Service in Hong Kong and the National Immigration Administration. Those pages are in Chinese.

    Non-Chinese permanent residents

This is a different permit, with its own National Immigration Administration notice. An application may need an Immigration Department letter that records nationality.

This site does not submit applications or decide which permit you need.

  2. Payment is per merchant, that day

Whether WeChat Pay or AlipayHK issued in Hong Kong works at a merchant follows that wallet and that merchant on the day.

  3. Choose the crossing first

Ports, services and eligibility need a same-day check. These are directions, not journey minutes.

    • High-speed rail

Leave from Hong Kong West Kowloon. A destination station is not the attraction and not a journey time.

    • Border and cross-boundary coach

The Transport Department lists operators by crossing. Until a city’s boarding point is chosen, no hub can be applied. The page is in Chinese.

    • Northbound Travel

The scheme enters the mainland at the HZMB Zhuhai port. It is not a direct drive to every city. Other crossings need their own permits. This eligibility does not authorise driving into Macao. The pages are in Chinese.

    • HZMB shuttle

The shuttle runs between the ports. It is not a ride to a city attraction. A headway is not a journey time or a fare.

    • Border grades

Checked, missing or possibly stale grades stay on the border briefing. They are not copied into every roadbook.
