Karst Lakes & Mountain Sanctuaries: Zhaoqing Seven Star Crags & Dinghu Biosphere
The Emerald of the Tropic of Cancer · Water Karsts, Negative Oxygen Havens & Song Dynasty Walls
Renowned as Lingnan’s premier landscape marvel, Zhaoqing unites the dramatic karst topography of Guilin with the placid lakes of Hangzhou. Explore Seven Star Crags and Dinghu Mountain’s primeval forests.
Zhaoqing, historically named Duanzhou, represents the serene ecological core of the western GBA. Its landscape features dramatic limestone peaks erupting from glassy lake waters surrounded by UNESCO-recognized rainforests.
Water Karst: Seven Star Crags
Seven limestone karst peaks rise out of Xinghu Lake in an arrangement resembling the Big Dipper constellation. Taking a traditional boat through the water reveals ancient cliffside stone carvings dating back to the Tang dynasty.
Biosphere Reserve: Dinghu Mountain
Established in 1956 as China’s first nature reserve, Dinghu Mountain features the thundering Feishui Waterfall, where negative oxygen ion concentrations exceed 100,000 per cubic centimeter.
High-Speed Rail: Gui-Guang line to Zhaoqing East Station (15 mins by tourist shuttle to Dinghu Mountain). Intercity: Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Railway directly to Zhaoqing Station.
Try traditional steamed pork dumplings (Guozheng Zong) piping hot; wear non-slip shoes inside the limestone caves.
