Zhuhai's Green Wings: Doumen Hot Springs & Hengqin Wetlands

Zhuhai is more than just Lovers' Avenue and theme parks. Deep in Doumen District, you'll find an ancient mountain temple and China's first Japanese-style open-air hot spring. In Hengqin, escape to the vast Mangzhou Wetlands and a 14-kilometer romantic flower corridor.

When people think of traveling to Zhuhai, the first things that come to mind are usually the Fisher Girl statue on Lovers' Avenue or the massive Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin. However, as the most livable eco-city in the Greater Bay Area, Zhuhai's true charm often lies outside its urban core. Today, we escape the crowds and head to the western district of Doumen and the southern island of Hengqin to find the purest ecological and wellness retreats.

The Premier Peak of the Pearl River: Jintai Temple

We first drive west to Doumen District, home to Mount Huangyang, known as the "Premier Peak of the Pearl River Portal." Winding up the mountain road, you'll discover Jintai Temple, a highly revered Southern Song Dynasty royal temple hidden halfway up the peak. The temple is built seamlessly into the mountainside, its yellow walls and dark roofs peeking through the dense primary forest. Standing in the plaza before the Main Hall, you get a sweeping view of the Doumen water towns below. The mountain spring water here is so sweet that locals often hike up just to fetch water for brewing tea.

Ultimate Relaxation: Yuwenquan Hot Spring Resort

Just a 10-minute drive down from the temple is the famous Zhuhai Yuwenquan. As China's first Japanese-style open-air hot spring resort, it perfectly blends Japanese onsen culture with Cantonese hospitality. The resort features dozens of open-air pools with various therapeutic effects, surrounded by bamboo groves and rockeries for maximum privacy. We highly recommend booking the package that includes the "Grand Temple Fair Feast." After soaking, you put on a Yukata and walk into an Edo-style street fair, eating unlimited gourmet food as you stroll—the ultimate weekend relaxation.

Hengqin's Pure Land: Mangzhou Wetland Park

On day two, we turn our attention to the southernmost part of the city: the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone. Beyond the skyscrapers and theme parks, the northwest corner of Hengqin preserves a vast green sanctuary: Mangzhou Wetland Park. This area is covered with expansive mangrove forests and reed beds, attracting flocks of rare migratory birds. Walking along the winding wooden boardwalks, with the sea breeze in your face, the only sounds you hear are bird calls and the rustling of reeds. It is a paradise for eco-photographers and bird watchers.

14 Kilometers of Pink Romance: Hengqin Flower Corridor

We conclude our trip on the northern shore of Hengqin at the Flower Corridor. This is a coastal landscape belt stretching nearly 14 kilometers. If you visit in autumn or winter (especially November to December), you will witness Zhuhai's most romantic scene: over 7,000 silk floss trees blooming simultaneously, creating an endless sea of pink flowers. Rent a bicycle and ride along the greenway beneath the blossoms. With the blue Maliuzhou Waterway and Macau's skyline on your left, and a shower of pink petals on your right, the extreme romance of this place will make it very hard to leave.

實用交通及通關指引 (Transit & Border Guide)

Jintai Temple and Yuwenquan in Doumen are quite far from the city center; driving or taking a taxi is recommended, though Yuwenquan offers a shuttle from the Gongbei Port. Mangzhou Wetland and the Flower Corridor in Hengqin can be accessed via the local "Qindao" shuttle buses or by riding shared bicycles.

小編在地避坑貼士 (Curator Insider Tips)

Jintai Temple gets crowded with worshippers on weekends, so go early in the morning. Yuwenquan's Temple Fair Feast is extremely popular and requires advance booking; make sure to arrive on an empty stomach. The Mangzhou Wetlands have little shade, so bring sun protection and mosquito repellent. The blooming of the silk floss trees depends heavily on weather, so check social media before heading out.
