Macau's Cotai Strip: Architectural Marvels & Sensory Overload
From the sci-fi curves of Morpheus to the British charm of The Londoner and teamLab's magic
Cotai is a miracle built on reclaimed land. Not only does it host Asia's most luxurious resorts, but it is also a modern architectural museum showcasing top designers. Get your cameras ready for the ultimate visual feast on the "Vegas Strip of Asia."
If your impression of Macau is still stuck on the ancient Ruins of St. Paul's and narrow streets, the reclaimed land of "Cotai" will completely upend your understanding. Fueled by tens of billions of dollars, the glittering Cotai Strip has been born. This is the ultimate visual feast of luxury, architecture, and technology.
The Queen of Curves' Sci-Fi Masterpiece: Morpheus
We begin at the Morpheus Hotel in the City of Dreams. This building is the swansong of the late legendary architect Zaha Hadid. It is the world's first high-rise supported by a free-form exoskeleton structure. From the outside, it looks like a massive metallic ice cube twisted and hollowed out in the center. Walking into the lobby, the 35-meter atrium and intricate geometric lines make you feel like you've boarded a futuristic sci-fi space station. We highly recommend taking the fully transparent observation elevators to experience the intense visual impact of the warped space.
Instantly Teleport to the UK: The Londoner Macao
Leaving the futuristic Morpheus, we cross the street and instantly travel back to classic Europe. The Londoner Macao is the newest and boldest landmark on the Cotai Strip. Not only does it feature a 1:1 perfect replica facade of the Palace of Westminster, but it also boasts a 96-meter-tall Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben). Highlighted by evening illuminations and complete with red double-decker buses and black cabs at the entrance, you don't need to fly to Europe to shoot pure British blockbuster photos here.
Immersive Magic: teamLab SuperNature
After admiring the grand exterior architecture, we step into the Venetian to experience the pinnacle of indoor digital art: teamLab SuperNature. This massive 5,000-square-meter, 8-meter-high, 3D space has been transformed by the teamLab collective into a borderless art world. Here, flowers bloom and wither at your touch, and giant waterfalls of light cascade from above. This isn't just viewing; it's a sensory magic show that completely immerses you—especially perfect for photography lovers and families.
The Cotai Strip is incredibly accessible. Upon arriving at the Macau Airport, Taipa Ferry Terminal, or Hengqin Port, there are free resort shuttle buses directly to the major hotels. The resorts themselves are connected by air-conditioned indoor footbridges or free shuttles, making walking between them very convenient.
The Morpheus lobby allows free photography, but please be mindful of hotel guests. Big Ben at The Londoner chimes every hour; dusk when the lights turn on is the best time for photos. Some areas in teamLab have mirrored floors—skirts are not recommended. Wear light-colored clothing to catch the best projections.
