Canton Clouds & Green Lungs: From the Tower to Hot Springs

Guangzhou is a city of extremes. Boasting one of China's most dazzling CBD skylines, it also miraculously preserves massive urban wetlands and world-class natural hot springs. This is a deep journey from extreme modernity to absolute natural zen.

When people think of Guangzhou, Dim Sum and bustling wholesale markets usually come to mind. However, the true charm of Guangzhou lies in its pursuit of extremes—from skyscrapers that push engineering limits to massive urban wetlands and rare natural thermal springs.

Conquering the Clouds of Zhujiang New Town: Canton Tower

The journey must begin at the city's absolute landmark: the Canton Tower. Nicknamed the "Slim Waist" for its elegant, twisting hyperbolic structure, it stands 600 meters tall. We highly recommend visiting at dusk. You can ride the horizontal Ferris wheel at 450 meters high and watch the sunset turn the Pearl River gold. For thrill-seekers, the "Sky Drop" free-fall ride at 488 meters is a must—experiencing weightlessness while hundreds of skyscrapers sit directly beneath your feet will get your adrenaline pumping.

An Urban Green Miracle and Military History

Just a ten-minute drive from the futuristic Canton Tower, you enter a completely different world: the Haizhu National Wetland Park. It is the only national wetland park located on the central axis of a megacity in China. Strolling through ancient Lingnan orchards and intricate waterways—especially in autumn when the cosmos flower fields are in full bloom—is the perfect cure for urban anxiety. It is truly the "Green Heart of Guangzhou."

Heading east along the Pearl River, we reach Changzhou Island, home to the Huangpu Military Academy Memorial. Built in 1924, this modest yellow complex is the cradle of modern Chinese military history. Walking across the parade grounds and through the dormitories, you can deeply feel the historical weight of the countless passionate youths who trained here to change the destiny of a nation.

Conghua: Rare Hot Springs Rivaling the Swiss Alps

For the finale, we drive north to the suburban Conghua District, hiding a world-class natural treasure: the Conghua Hot Spring Scenic Area. It is one of only two places in the world (the other being the Swiss Alps) to possess rare, natural radon-rich hot springs. Surrounded by the Liuxi River and dense, misty mountains, the air here is incredibly rich in negative ions. Checking into a premium spa resort, soaking in the mineral-rich waters, and listening to the birds sing is the ultimate wellness experience Guangzhou has to offer.

實用交通及通關指引 (Transit & Border Guide)

The Canton Tower is directly accessible via MTR Line 3 (Canton Tower Station). To reach the Huangpu Military Academy, take the MTR to Higher Education Mega Center and transfer to a ferry or bus. For Conghua Hot Springs, you can take MTR Line 14 to Dongfeng Station, but driving or hiring a private car from the city center (approx. 1.5 hours) is highly recommended.

小編在地避坑貼士 (Curator Insider Tips)

Outdoor activities at the top of Canton Tower (Ferris wheel, Sky Drop) close temporarily during high winds or thunderstorms; check the forecast before you go. Conghua hot spring resorts book out months in advance during the winter weekends, so plan accordingly.
